The Copernicus Climate Change Service, on behalf of the European Commission, released the European State of the Climate 2022 report. The World Glacier Monitoring Service (WGMS) - located at the Department of Geography - contributed glacier data and analyses.
The report highlights that the last eight years were the warmest on record for the globe as a whole. In Europe, 2022 was the second warmest year and the warmest summer on record. Glaciers continued to melt at global level and experience a record ice loss in the European Alps.
