02.12.2020SoKu Team wins GRC Grant

Social and Cultural Geography team members Julie Ren and Ifigeneia Dimitrakou along with UZH art historian Charlotte Matter receive a Graduate Campus grant for their symposium proposal "The Fraught Significations of Contemporary Biennials." The symposium will bring together cultural geographers, art historians and experts on the biennial format for an exchange about how to read art and architecture biennials across contexts and disciplines. We invite participants to reflect on the following questions: What does the biennial do? To whom and at what cost? Unique perspectives are integrated from different academic disciplines as well as from artists, curators and critics. Over two days, the symposium is comprised of three panel sessions: Session 1: Spectacles and the Speculative, Session 2: Emotional Biennials and its Affective Turns, Session 3: Precarious Conditions, New and Old, as well as a closed-door research development working session, and a public keynote talk.
