Ismene Ehrler presented her work at the RGS-IBG Annual International Conference, which took place from September 1 – 4 in London. Organised by the Royal Geographical Society, the conference convened over 2,000 geographers from around the world under this year’s theme “Geographies of inequalities: towards just places”. In her presentation “Caring with and against the breakdown. How tenants respond to the social and material destruction of their home”, Ismene presented first results from her fieldwork within the Responsible City project. Her presentation was part of the double session “Contesting Housing Injustice: Mobilising Materials of Concern” organised by Elara Shurety (King’s College London) and Liz Storer (Queen Mary University of London). The presentation showed how tenants find responses to the disrepair and breakdown of their home, and how repair can function as practices of future making.
Hanna Hilbrandt also joined the conference speaking on the panel “Making Life Possible: Rethinking the South and ‘Unprecedented’ Climate Risk” and contributing to a session on Podcasting for Urban Studies.
