About Elias
Elías Méndez Domínguez received the M.Sc. degree in telecommunications engineering from the University of Vigo, Spain, in 2007, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Zürich, Switzerland, in 2018. His dissertation focused on urban change detection using synthetic aperture radar (SAR).
He joined the Sensors and Radar Technologies Unit, Joint Research Centre, Ispra, Italy, in 2008, and Thales Nederland B.V., Delft, The Netherlands, under the FP7 Marie Curie Program in 2009. In 2010, he joined the Remote Sensing Laboratories, University of Zürich, where he has been with the Computational SAR Group, SARLab, since 2010. He became group leader in 2023.
His research interests include radar waveform diversity, advanced pulse compression, and SAR processing.
What excites me most about my work at RSWS
Working at the university is fantastic—I love teaching and feel truly passionate about radar. Combining research and education allows me to share this passion while pushing the boundaries of radar remote sensing. I especially enjoy exploring complex environments using drone, airborne, and spaceborne SAR, and developing methods to extract valuable insights from these data. The mix of technical challenges, field campaigns, and collaboration within an interdisciplinary team makes my work at RSWS both exciting and meaningful.
