The 2024 RGS-IBG Annual International Conference was held in London, from Tuesday 27 to Friday 30 August 2024. Daniela Marino Castro, PhD candidate, received an honourable mention to her for presentation ‘Revealing Cross-Regional Patterns: The Role of Landscape in Shaping Positive Perceptions’.
This research analyzes patterns of positive experiences from a large dataset of written descriptions. This method links emotions to landscapes using natural language processing. The results revealed how landscapes in the British National Parks are associated with activities, aesthetics, features, place and temporal aspects. This approach raises important questions: What aspects do we miss? and how does the landcover ensure our enjoyment?
