Peatlands store one-third of the world’s soil carbon and are vulnerable to climate change. In our research, we address key unknowns in peatland plant-soil interactions, particularly investigating: 1) peatland root responses to climate change and 2) the influence of these root responses on peatland carbon pools and fluxes. Our methods include leveraging existing climate change experiments such as SPRUCE, laboratory incubations as well as data synthesis and modeling.
