Internship

Organization

An internship in research or a professional field can be a valuable addition to your academic education. For a four-week internship, 2 ECTS credits can be awarded in the elective module if the work is performed at 100% employment. Throughout your entire degree programme (Bachelor’s and Master’s), the total number of ECTS credits awarded is limited to a maximum of 5 ECTS, which corresponds to a ten-week internship. Before starting the internship, you must find a faculty member who will decide whether the internship can be credited.

Internship positions must be found and organised independently. You can find inspiration in the internship reports. Vacant internship positions are published on our website, amongst other places.

Documentation

As a first step, an internship report of approximately 5–10 pages must be submitted to the faculty member at the end of the internship. If the internship report is satisfactory, the faculty member is able to sign the confirmation of the internship. To have the internship recognised, the internship confirmation (PDF, 75 KB) and the internship report (DOCX, 23 KB)  can be submitted via the form.

In a second step, a summary of the report is needed, which shows other students various ways to gain professional experience and helps them to organise an internship themselves. For this, the internship is briefly described and key details are provided (length approx. one A4 page).

This report must be submitted as a Word document in German (DOCX, 23 KB) or English (DOCX, 23 KB) to the Communications Officer of the Institute of Geography and must include the points listed on the second page of the template (DOCX, 23 KB). Links to relevant websites may be highlighted in the text and are listed at the end of the text. One or two images for illustration purposes must be submitted separately (in landscape format with a minimum resolution of 920x556 pixels). By submitting the report, students agree that the internship report will be included in the GIUZ’s online internship catalogue and thus made publicly available.
